HAGERSTOWN, MD News (11/8/2023) – Children In Need, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of underprivileged children in Washington County, is marking a remarkable 25 years of service. Since its inception in November 1998, this organization has been unwavering in its mission to provide essential items and educational supplies to children, ensuring their success in school.

Matt South, the President of Children In Need’s Board of Directors, expressed the organization’s excitement about reaching this significant milestone. He stated, “We are humbled by the support the Washington County community has shown Children In Need and the clients the organization has served since its inception in November 1998.”

Children In Need’s primary objective remains consistent: to transform the lives of young individuals by providing them with vital resources. The organization offers free clothing, school supplies, shoes, coats, hygiene products, and more to those in need within the Washington County community.

For a quarter of a century, Children In Need has been a pillar of support for thousands of disadvantaged children, ensuring that they have access to the basics that many of us take for granted. Annually, the nonprofit serves over 3,000 children, with 95% of the families they assist living at the poverty level and 5% at the ALICE household level. This essential work is made possible through the dedication of an exceptional volunteer network that collectively contributes 10,874 hours of service each year.

The 25th-anniversary milestone not only reflects the hard work of Children In Need’s volunteers and staff but also speaks to the remarkable generosity of the community. Over the years, individuals, businesses, and organizations have come together to make a profound difference in the lives of disadvantaged children. Through consistent donations and support from various partners, Children In Need has been able to maintain its mission year after year.

Brittany Wedd, the Executive Director of Children In Need, underscored the organization’s role in boosting students’ confidence by providing new or gently-used clothing and basic hygiene supplies. She said, “As our community continues to struggle, Children In Need aims to be a trusted partner in family’s lives so that their children can have the opportunities they deserve to achieve academic success.”

To celebrate their 25th Anniversary, Children In Need has planned a series of events and initiatives throughout the year, culminating in a celebratory gala event in late spring 2024. They invite all community members to join them in commemorating this significant milestone and continuing to support their essential work. Those interested in making anniversary donations to support Children In Need’s clients can do so via their website.

Children In Need’s remarkable journey over the past 25 years is a testament to the power of community and the profound impact that dedicated individuals and organizations can have on the lives of disadvantaged children in Washington County.
