HAGERSTOWN, MD News (7/24/2023) – The Washington County Government Solid Waste Department has released a statement that the issues with the credit system have been resolved and credit card payments can now be accepted at the Forty West Landfill, located at 12630 Earth Care Road, Hagerstown, Maryland.
The landfill’s ability to accept credit cards was down for several days, with no clear explanation of the cause to the public. The county did not respond to RFHC requests for further information about this issue.
On July 21st, RFHC sent the following questions to Washington County Government, which were not responded to:
- Is this a county technical issue, or a problem with the payment processor?
- Was this due to a hardware or software issue?
- Was this due to another cybersecurity incident?
- Is any other county credit card processing affected?
RFHC will happily update both articles with further information, should the county decide to disclose it.
This is yet another instance where Washington County has failed to respond to inquiries regarding current happenings in the county.
