Fake Hagerstown In-N-Out Continues to Exist on Social Media, Intentions Unknown but Possibly Malicious

HAGERSTOWN, MD News (9/19/2022) – For almost a week, In-N-Out Burger in Hagerstown has been posting about their upcoming opening in Fall 2022. There’s just one problem – the Hagerstown restaurant doesn’t exist, and the social media page might be a scam.

Upon reaching out to In-N-Out corporate press contacts, Radio Free Hub City was informed that the In-N-Out Facebook page is fake.

“Unfortunately, the information regarding plans to open an In-N-Out Burger in Hagerstown, Maryland is not accurate,” stated Mike Abbate, In-N-Out Assistant Vice President of Real Estate and Development, “Currently, we do not have any plans to open a restaurant there, and we’ll likely focus our restaurant growth in our existing markets for the near future.”

No mention was made regarding possible legal action against the creator of the page for impersonating their brand.

The page has been posting menus, as well as construction signs making it appear that an In-N-Out is coming to Hagerstown.

Similar incidents have been reported across the country where fake restaurant pages even list physical locations, with potential customers showing up to a location that doesn’t exist.

Some of the fake restaurant pages have turned into scams, duping residents into liking and sharing posts to win free meals or other prizes. Residents are then asked to provide credit card information in exchange for their prize. Of course, the prize is never awarded, and the residents become victims of identity theft.

Hagerstown area residents should inform their family and friends of the potential scam, and warn them not to follow the page or participate in any future contests the page might offer.
