SMITHSBURG, MD News (9/6/2022) – At their September 6th Town Council meeting, the Town of Smithsburg approved in a 3-2 vote a new camera purchase contract with Trinity Security Integrators, with councilmembers Dan and Gonzalez opposed. This new contract utilizes cameras manufactured by Turing Video, based out of San Mateo, CA, addressing the security concerns present with the previous version of the contract, which was retracted on August 23.

The new contract is an upfront purchase of $9,995, with an ongoing service contract of $833 per month. The contract includes a total of 25 high-definition cameras and digital video recorders for Smithsburg Town Hall, as well as its parks.

Turing Video, founded in 2017, manufactures National Defense Authorization Act compliant cameras, which should address national security concerns with the previous contract. Since the camera purchase contract, as well as service contract are under $10,000, no competitive bid process is required in accordance with the town charter.

This article will be updated with any additional comments from the Town of Smithsburg, if any are submitted.
