SMITHSBURG, MD News (8/23/2022) – After a closed executive session, the Smithsburg council accepted the retraction of Trinity Security Integrators proposal for purchasing a camera system for the town.
Smithsburg Economic Development Commission member Ben Rodriguez spoke prior to the council accepting the retraction, about concerns regarding the negative light our previous article put the town in, and how it could potentially deter investors. He spoke how the article makes the town appear unorganized and polarized, and requested that additional news coverage be provided regarding the positive things happening in Smithsburg, such as the upcoming “Fun Run”.
EDITOR’S NOTE: We’re HAPPY to oblige Ben, and will be reaching out!
The retraction was accepted through a unanimous vote by the council.
A motion was made to send the camera system out for a “Request for Proposal” (RFP), but after discussion the motion failed in a 2-3 vote.
Following the vote, further discussion resulted in a motion to review a new contract proposal from TSI at the September 6th Council Meeting. If an agreement is not reached on the new proposal on the Council Meeting on September 6th, the camera system will be sent out for RFP. This motion passed with a 3-2 vote.
This article will be updated with any quote, comment or correction by the Smithsburg Mayor and Council, but was published immediately following the town council meeting to timely keep the community informed.
