Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigated by Maryland State Police in Baltimore County

Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early Sunday morning in Baltimore County. The incident involved a pedestrian who was struck and killed after exiting a vehicle that had become inoperable on the roadway.

According to Maryland State Police, the collision took place shortly before 1:30 a.m. on August 2. Troopers responded to the area of the outer loop of I-695, east of southbound I-83, following reports of a pedestrian involved in a crash. The preliminary investigation suggests that a Lexus IS had stopped in the far-right lane of the highway due to mechanical issues. A 17-year-old male passenger from Edgewood, Maryland, was outside the vehicle at the time, reportedly attempting to change a tire. For reasons not yet determined, a Honda Accord then collided with the rear driver’s side of the Lexus before striking the pedestrian.

Emergency medical services personnel pronounced the 17-year-old pedestrian deceased at the scene. The driver of the Lexus, identified as 18-year-old Kyeahle Lamerah Armstead of Baltimore, Maryland, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The driver of the Honda Accord remained at the scene. Police noted that the Lexus reportedly had its hazard lights activated.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration provided assistance by managing road closures, which lasted for approximately three hours.

Maryland State Police are using this incident to remind motorists about safety precautions during roadside emergencies. The agency advises drivers to contact emergency services immediately if they find themselves in the travel portion of a roadway with an inoperable vehicle.
