After Multiple Fires Over 40,000 Lighting Fixtures Recalled – Is Your Home or Business at Risk?

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of approximately 42,000 Metalux Optimized High Bay (OHB) LED light fixtures manufactured by Cooper Lighting, LLC. The recall is due to a fire hazard identified with these fixtures, which are commonly used in commercial settings with high ceilings, such as warehouses.

The hazard stems from the potential for the LED board within the fixtures to overheat. This overheating can lead to the board making contact with the fixture’s lens or nearby combustible materials, thereby creating a fire risk. The recalled fixtures are described as white metal, ranging in length from two to four feet and in width from one to one-and-a-half feet, and feature a plastic diffuser lens cover. Consumers can locate the catalog number and date code, printed on a product label inside the fixture channel cover, by removing two screws. The date code is presented in an mm/dd/yy format. Specifically, the recall affects catalog number OHB-60SE with date codes from April 2020 through December 2022, and catalog numbers OHBL-60SE and OHBL-100SE with date codes from October 2022 through May 15, 2025. These lights were sold nationwide through Cooper Lighting authorized distributors between April 2020 and May 2025, with prices ranging from $425 to $950.

Cooper Lighting has received nine reports detailing instances where the light fixtures caught fire. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage have been reported in connection with these incidents. As a safety measure, consumers who have purchased these fixtures are urged to cease using them immediately. To address the hazard, Cooper Lighting is offering a free repair or replacement for the affected units.
