The resurgence of Fort Ritchie is highlighted by the opening of various establishments, ranging from retail shops and eateries to service providers and manufacturing operations. Businesses like Ritchie Rations, a convenience store offering locally sourced organic produce and feed, and The Greenhouse Café, a popular spot for drinks and light meals, are serving the community. The Nisei Gallery, dedicated to preserving “The Nisei Mural” and showcasing local artists, has also opened its doors, as has Mountain Top Ice Cream Shop. The historical significance of the site is being preserved and shared through the Ritchie History Museum, which opened its doors to commemorate the fort’s past, including its role during World War II as a training ground for intelligence and psychological warfare specialists, often referred to as the “Ritchie Boys.” Lakeside Hall, originally the officers’ club built in 1933, has been restored and is now available as an event space overlooking Lake Royer. In recognition of the centennial, the Ritchie History Museum conducted a ceremony to bury a time capsule, scheduled to be reopened in 2076, marking another 50 years of the fort’s ongoing narrative.
