Frederick Man Faces Numerous Charges After Multi-Vehicle Collision and Foot Chase

A traffic stop in Frederick, Maryland, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, escalated into a pursuit involving multiple vehicles and a subsequent foot chase, resulting in the arrest of Demetreus Grayson Bowie, 35, of Walkersville, Maryland. According to the Frederick Police Department, the initial stop occurred around 2:15 p.m. in the 100 block of South Market Street. During the encounter, an officer requested a K9 unit to conduct a narcotics sniff of the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Bowie, became agitated as the K9 handler approached and fled the scene, striking three other vehicles. Officers did not immediately pursue at this juncture. The suspect vehicle continued northbound on South Market Street, disregarding public safety, and collided with three additional vehicles before coming to a complete stop. Following the final collision, Bowie abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot, but was apprehended by officers after a short pursuit.

Four individuals, including Bowie, were transported to Frederick Health Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening. A search of Bowie’s vehicle revealed narcotics and currency. An additional quantity of a controlled dangerous substance was also found in the vicinity where Bowie was taken into custody. The Frederick Police Department expressed gratitude to community members who provided crucial information by contacting 911 and speaking with officers at the scene, noting their partnership as vital to community safety.

Demetreus Grayson Bowie has been charged with multiple offenses, including six counts of Hit and Run Related Offenses, five counts of Malicious Destruction of Property ($1,500 or Greater), eleven counts of First Degree Assault, eleven counts of Second Degree Assault, and eleven counts of Reckless Endangerment. He also faces two counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute (Non-Marijuana), two counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute within a School Zone, Fleeing and Eluding, and Attempt by Driver to Elude Uniformed Police Officer by Fleeing on Foot. The investigation was conducted by Officer H. Wright, with case report number 2026-037386.
