The Hagerstown Police Department has apprehended a suspect in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred on the morning of June 8th, 2026, on North Prospect Street. The incident involved two individuals known to each other, resulting in one man sustaining multiple stab wounds following a verbal dispute.
According to the Hagerstown Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of N. Prospect St. around 8:30 am on June 8th in response to a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, law enforcement found a 56-year-old male resident of Hagerstown who had been stabbed on multiple occasions. Emergency services transported the victim to Meritus Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, which were subsequently described as non-life-threatening.

The alleged assailant has been identified as Ronnie Melson, a 65-year-old resident of Hagerstown. Investigators determined that the victim and Mr. Melson were acquainted prior to the altercation. The stabbing reportedly took place immediately after a verbal disagreement between the two men. Following the incident, law enforcement officers successfully located and arrested Mr. Melson without further incident. He was subsequently taken to the Washington County Detention Center. A booking photograph of the suspect has not yet been released.
