The incident required a two-alarm response, with approximately 69 firefighters from the Boonsboro Fire Department and surrounding agencies working to bring the flames under control. The fire took about one hour to contain. While no injuries or deaths were reported among the residents, the intensity of the fire led to the ignition of a gas supply line and necessitated the evacuation of eight individuals and four animals from their homes. The American Red Cross has been mobilized to provide assistance to the displaced families.
The home where the fire began sustained an estimated $1,000,000 in structural damage, with an additional $300,000 in damages to its contents. The neighboring homes also suffered significant damage due to the fire’s spread. While smoke alarms were present in the affected structures, and one home had a fire alarm, no sprinkler systems were in place. The preliminary cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Residents are reminded that fire safety is a community effort. The Office of the State Fire Marshal encourages citizens to ensure they have working smoke alarms and to familiarize themselves with fire prevention strategies.
