The election is a key civic event for Shepherdstown, allowing residents to directly influence the leadership and direction of their local government. The positions of Mayor and Recorder are single-seat offices, meaning each voter casts one vote for their preferred candidate. The Town Council, however, has multiple seats, providing voters with the ability to support several individuals they believe will best represent the community’s interests. This broad representation on the council aims to capture diverse perspectives on town matters.
Residents are strongly encouraged by the Town of Shepherdstown to prepare for Election Day by becoming informed about the candidates who will appear on the ballot. Understanding each candidate’s platform and experience is crucial for making informed decisions. The town has provided resources to assist voters in this preparation. Comprehensive details regarding voting procedures, including information on absentee ballots and voter registration, are available on the Town’s official website. Voters can also find a prominent blue button labeled “Election 2026” on the homepage of the website, which will direct them to all necessary election information.
