The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development’s (DHCD) Maryland Mortgage Program has been honored with the Outstanding Achievement in Affordable Homeownership award by U.S. Bank. This recognition, part of U.S. Bank’s 2026 Housing Finance Agency Homeownership Awards, celebrates organizations that excel in loan production and broaden access to stable homeownership opportunities. According to DHCD, Maryland has achieved the highest loan production for U.S. Bank nationwide as of the close of February 2026.

The Maryland Mortgage Program offers a range of critical down payment assistance options designed to adapt to the evolving housing market. These offerings include specialized programs such as Maryland SmartBuy, the HomeAbility program for individuals with disabilities, assistance for very low-income populations, and resources for home repairs and improvements for first-time homebuyers through the FHA 203(K) Limited program. In Fiscal Year 2025, the program facilitated 3,070 mortgages for Maryland residents, with an average of $1 billion in mortgage loan reservations annually. This significant achievement in loan production contributed to Maryland leading U.S. Bank’s client roster for the year to date. Previously, the Maryland Mortgage Program ranked as the second-highest loan producer in total production dollars among 38 participating agencies nationwide working with U.S. Bank. The awards process considered qualitative factors, but the primary basis for this award was year-to-date loan production performance, indicating sustained success throughout the evaluation period.
