The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a significant recall affecting approximately 3.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes manufactured by Weber-Stephen Products LLC. This recall is due to a serious hazard where small metal bristles can detach from the brushes. These loose bristles can then attach to grilled food or the grill surface, posing a significant ingestion risk. If swallowed, these metal fragments can cause severe internal injuries that may require surgical intervention.

The recalled products include a range of metal wire bristle grill brushes with plastic or wood handles, measuring between 12 and 21 inches in length. The specific model numbers included in this recall are 6277, 6278, 6463, 6464, 6493, and 6494. Consumers can identify if their brush is part of this recall by checking the model number, which is typically found on the product packaging. The affected brushes were distributed between 2011 and 2026 and sold at major retailers nationwide, including Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Target, as well as online through Amazon and Weber.com. Prices for these brushes ranged from $10 to $17.
Weber is aware of at least 38 reports detailing instances where small wire bristles detached from these grill brushes. Of particular concern are four reports where consumers ingested metal bristles and required medical attention to have the fragments removed from their digestive tract or throat.
Consumers who own any of the recalled Weber metal wire bristle grill brushes are strongly advised to immediately cease using them. To receive a replacement, consumers should contact Weber toll-free at 877-597-9588 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. Alternatively, consumers can visit the dedicated recall website at https://weberbrushrecall.expertinquiry.com/ or navigate to the recall notice section on Weber.com. Upon contacting Weber, consumers will be instructed on how to properly discard the recalled grill brushes and will be provided with a replacement nylon bristle grill brush, which is a cold cleaning alternative.
This recall serves as a crucial reminder for consumers to exercise caution with products that could pose an unseen danger. The ingestion of small metal parts from grill brushes can lead to serious health consequences, underscoring the importance of heeding product recalls and seeking immediate replacements when necessary. Consumers are encouraged to report any dangerous products or product-related injuries on the SaferProducts.gov website.
