DHS claims to have achieved the most secure border in U.S. history. Border Patrol apprehensions along the southwest border in the administration’s first year were reportedly lower than a single month under the previous administration. Daily encounters have seen a substantial decline, with the Border Patrol releasing zero illegal aliens into the country for the past nine months. These achievements are attributed to the end of “catch-and-release” policies, consistent use of detention and removal authorities, and the construction of a “Smart Wall” system incorporating advanced technology. The department also reported a significant increase in drug seizures, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, over the past year. The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” is cited as a landmark investment in border security, providing comprehensive measures for infrastructure, technology, and law enforcement. In preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, DHS is coordinating with various partners to ensure safety and facilitate smooth travel for millions of fans.
In terms of enforcement, DHS reports the arrest and deportation of hundreds of thousands of individuals accused of criminal activity, including gang members and those involved in drug trafficking. These figures include an estimated 2.2 million self-deportations and over 713,000 deportations. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reportedly arrested and removed over 1,500 known or suspected terrorists. The Laken Riley Act, signed into law in 2025, is mentioned as a mandate for the arrest of any undocumented immigrant accused of a violent crime. Furthermore, USCIS has seen a significant increase in applications for its ranks, aiming to bolster its mission to combat fraud and other threats.
The department also highlights efforts to locate unaccompanied children who were reportedly lost under the previous administration, stating that 145,000 such children have been found. The goal is to locate every missing child.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is described as ushering in a “Golden Age of Travel.” The agency has reported high screening volumes and has implemented initiatives such as the “Shoes On” campaign and the successful implementation of REAL ID requirements. A new system, TSA ConfirmID, has been launched to process travelers without acceptable identification, ensuring that these individuals bear the cost rather than taxpayers. The TSA has also introduced new campaigns and promotions for its PreCheck program.
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has implemented changes to its immigration policies, aiming to ensure that new immigrants align with American culture and values. The agency’s fraud investigation, “Operation Twin Shield,” is noted as its largest enforcement operation to date, uncovering fraud and public safety concerns in numerous cases. USCIS is also prioritizing H-1B visas for higher-skilled and higher-paid individuals to protect American workers’ wages and job opportunities. A new rule has been introduced to reduce wait times for religious workers, and USCIS officers have issued a substantial number of Notices to Appear to place individuals in removal proceedings. In response to a recent attack, asylum processing has been put on hold for individuals from all countries, and a reexamination of green cards for individuals from high-risk countries has been initiated. Additionally, humanitarian parole authority has been reviewed, and certain parole programs and Temporary Protected Status designations have been terminated.
The U.S. Coast Guard is undergoing revitalization through the “Force Design 2028” initiative, which includes structural reforms and the acquisition of new assets. The Coast Guard has reported record seizures of illegal narcotics, preventing millions of lethal doses from reaching communities and saving billions in costs related to healthcare and crime. The agency has also conducted numerous search and rescue missions, saving lives and protecting property. Recruitment efforts have exceeded goals, with the Coast Guard on track to expand its force to meet evolving demands. The use of advanced technology and intelligence-driven patrols has led to increased interdictions of illegal activity along U.S. borders. The Coast Guard also plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe movement of maritime commerce.
The Secret Service has focused on restoring public confidence through rigorous training and recruitment. The agency’s National Threat Assessment Center has delivered a record number of trainings and briefings. Efforts to combat card skimming and Electronic Benefits Transfer fraud have reportedly prevented significant financial losses.
Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) have received substantial funding to enhance training for Border Patrol, CBP, and ICE personnel. FLETC has expanded collaboration with law enforcement agencies nationwide through programs like the 287(g) Training Program. Training numbers have reached near-record levels, with a focus on scaling operations to meet growing security demands and enhancing training for countering waterborne threats. FLETC anticipates training a significant number of law enforcement personnel in the coming year.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has focused on safeguarding critical systems. CISA has published numerous security products, triaged a high volume of incidents, and blocked billions of malicious connections on federal civilian networks and critical infrastructure. The agency is also enhancing preparedness through cyber and physical security exercises. CISA has also released security guides to help organizations manage Unmanned Aircraft System threats.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been reformed to expedite state-led disaster recoveries. President Trump has approved numerous federal disaster declarations, unlocking critical federal resources. FEMA has conducted evaluations of its grant programs to identify and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse. Contract reviews have led to significant savings, and fraud investigations have safeguarded billions in taxpayer resources. FEMA has expedited public assistance projects and reduced the time between funding requests and obligation. The agency has approved substantial amounts of individual assistance to households and public assistance for communities and infrastructure. Modernized survivor assistance tools, including a digitized payment system, have accelerated the delivery of aid. FEMA is also providing extensive support for recovery efforts in areas affected by hurricanes Helene and Milton, including grants to survivors, reimbursements to communities, and payments from the National Flood Insurance Program.
DHS has also coordinated efforts for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ensuring the safety and security of the event. This involves coordinating with various government agencies and providing support for all aspects of the tournament, which is expected to draw millions of visitors. FEMA has allocated significant funding for security measures, including counter-unmanned aircraft systems.
The Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) have collaborated to counter threats, particularly from China, to the U.S. space and information technology sectors. I&A has nominated thousands of individuals to the terrorist watchlist and has published numerous intelligence reports and analytical products for broad consumption by various partners. The analysis of devices encountered at ports of entry has led to the discovery of derogatory information on individuals, leading to visa revocations and entry denials. DHS has also launched a public web page to provide information on criminal illegal aliens arrested during enforcement operations.
The press release concludes by stating that DHS is “just getting started” under the current administration and that “the best is yet to come.”
