During a series of controlled drug purchases conducted by law enforcement, Pierce was found to have distributed approximately 35 grams of fentanyl. On the date of his arrest, authorities recovered 25 bricks of heroin and an additional 23 grams of fentanyl, which Pierce reportedly attempted to discard. Further investigation also revealed that Pierce had previously been in possession of a stolen firearm. This case was investigated by a collaborative effort involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), with Assistant United States Attorney Sarah R. Lloyd prosecuting the matter.

The prosecution of Pierce is part of two broader initiatives aimed at combating drug trafficking and violent crime. It is connected to Operation Take Back America, a nationwide endeavor by the Department of Justice designed to address illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and enhance community safety by targeting perpetrators of violent crime. Additionally, this case aligns with a district-wide initiative in the Middle District of Pennsylvania focused on combating the pervasive use and distribution of heroin. This local effort involves federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies working to identify, apprehend, and prosecute individuals involved in heroin-related offenses.
