The charges against Patterson include possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine, Schedule II controlled substances. Authorities further allege that Patterson carried a Smith & Wesson .44 caliber revolver in connection with his drug trafficking activities, knowing that his status as a convicted felon prohibited him from possessing such a weapon. The investigation leading to the indictment was a collaborative effort involving the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), the Luzerne County Drug Task Force, and the Kingston Police Department. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Tatum Wilson.
This case is part of “Operation Take Back America,” a broader national initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and reducing violent crime. The operation consolidates resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) to achieve these goals.
If convicted, Patterson faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, followed by a term of supervised release, and potential fines. The final sentence will be determined by a judge, taking into account applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. It is important to note that indictments are accusations, and all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
