Braun Industries, Inc. has initiated a recall affecting 162 of its emergency vehicles, including various models of Braun Chief XL and Braun Express, manufactured between July 1, 2025, and December 30, 2025. The recall stems from a defect in the Pran ECU04 battery isolator, which can lead to a loss of functionality for essential vehicle systems controlled by the Pran screen. This malfunction could compromise critical functions such as interior and exterior lighting, heating and air conditioning, and oxygen supply, thereby increasing the risk of accidents or injuries.

The defect arises from internal component failures within the battery isolator, causing it to inadvertently disconnect and cut power to the Pran system’s control screens. These failures have been reported to occur at vehicle startup, preventing the screens from activating and rendering the controlled systems inoperable until the screens can be rebooted. The specific models affected by this recall include the 2021-2025 Braun Chief XL I, 2025 Braun Chief XL III, 2025 BRAUN AMBULANCES SELECT CHIEF XL I, 2025 Braun Select Chief XL I, 2025 Braun Express III, 2021-2026 Braun Chief XL III, 2021-2025 Braun Express Plus I, 2021-2026 Braun Chief XL I, 2021-2025 Braun Liberty I, 2021-2025 Braun Express Plus I, 2025 BRAUN AMBULANCES LIBERTY TYPE I, and 2025 Braun Super Chief I. The issue is specifically linked to vehicles equipped with Pran systems and the Pran ECU04 battery isolator, and does not impact vehicles with VMux systems.
Braun Industries has outlined a remedy program to address this safety concern. Owners of affected vehicles are advised not to drive them and to park them outdoors. The company will replace the faulty Pran ECU04 battery isolator with a new InPower battery isolator, which is produced by a different manufacturer and has distinct physical characteristics. Additionally, wiring modifications and software updates will be performed. These repairs will be conducted by Braun Service Technicians or authorized Braun dealers at no cost to the customer.
For owners who have already paid for repairs related to this issue, Braun Industries has established a reimbursement plan. All costs associated with the replacement parts, wiring, program updates, and labor will be covered. Claims should be directed to the Braun Service department via phone at 877-344-9990 during business hours (6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. EDT) or by email at braunservice@braunambulances.com. The reimbursement period is from January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026.
Braun Industries has already corrected the recall condition in its production processes as of December 30, 2025, by implementing the replacement part, updating electrical schematics, and revising system programming. The company will notify dealers between January 5 and January 15, 2026, and owners will receive notification letters between January 15 and January 31, 2026. Remedy work is scheduled to commence on February 1, 2026.
