According to Maryland State Police, the pursuit was initiated when a vehicle driven by Hayes crossed into Maryland on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, with Virginia State Police reporting that Hayes had already rammed their marked patrol vehicle. This initial collision caused the Virginia State Police vehicle to strike a concrete barrier. The trooper involved in the incident was transported to a local hospital but has since been released.
Maryland State Police troopers from the College Park and Forestville barracks became involved as the pursuit continued into Prince George’s County. The chase eventually extended into Howard County, where Hayes reportedly crashed her vehicle near the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Meadowridge Road. Following the crash, Hayes is alleged to have fled the scene on foot before being taken into custody by troopers without further incident.
The Maryland State Police Aviation Command also played a role in the operation, with flight crews assisting in tracking the suspect’s vehicle during the pursuit. Hayes is facing charges including first-degree assault, attempting to elude uniformed police officers, failure to stop after an accident involving damage, and aggressive and reckless driving, along with other traffic-related offenses. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and subsequently transported to the Prince George’s Department of Corrections, where she awaits a court commissioner’s appearance. The investigation into the incident remains active.
