According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), twin brothers from Absecon, New Jersey, have been arrested following social media threats targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and a high-ranking DHS official. The arrests were made by ICE law enforcement in coordination with the Absecon Police Department SWAT team, who executed search and arrest warrants for U.S. citizens Ricardo Antonio Roman-Flores and Emilio Roman-Flores.

The charges stem from online threats, including calls to “shoot ICE on sight” and specific threats against DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. Emilio Roman-Flores faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of an assault weapon, possession of prohibited weapons, conspiracy terroristic threats, criminal coercion, threats, and cyber harassment. Ricardo Antonio Roman-Flores is charged with conspiracy terroristic threats. Both individuals are currently in custody at the Absecon Police Department pending federal charges.

This incident highlights concerns about an significant increase in threats against law enforcement officers, with ICE reporting an 8,000% rise in death threats. The agency has indicated a commitment to prosecuting individuals who threaten law enforcement or DHS officials. Residents are reminded that making threats against law enforcement can lead to serious federal charges and prosecution.
