The driver, identified as Suba Washington Jr., 27, of Williamsport, Maryland, was reportedly wanted by Washington County authorities for kidnapping, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment. The pursuit ensued after the traffic stop attempt, with Washington Jr. allegedly striking another vehicle near the intersection of Crestwood Boulevard and Buckeystown Pike before continuing his flight onto Route 85 northbound, then I-270 northbound, and finally I-70 westbound. Fortunately, the driver of the vehicle that was struck did not sustain any injuries.

Deputies deployed tire deflation devices, commonly known as stop sticks, near the Middletown exit, which successfully flattened the tires of Washington Jr.’s vehicle. Despite this, the pursuit continued into Washington County, where the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police provided assistance. The vehicle eventually came to a halt on I-70 near the Route 40 exit, at which point Washington Jr. was taken into custody. A 17-year-old passenger found in the vehicle was released to the custody of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Washington Jr. was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center and faces a number of traffic charges, including reckless driving, negligent driving, and two counts of attempting to elude law enforcement.
