A significant number of Mack and Volvo trucks are being recalled due to two distinct safety concerns, according to reports submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These recalls, affecting over 6,700 vehicles in total, address potential issues with load lock clamps and automatic high beam systems that could increase the risk of accidents. Vehicle owners are advised to take immediate action, with specific guidance to park affected vehicles outside and avoid driving them until repairs are made.

Mack Trucks is recalling 46 model year 2025-2026 Mack Pioneer (PR) trucks due to a defect with the load lock clamps located on the back of the cab. These clamps, manufactured by Nova Industries/Mayco International, LLC, may fail prematurely, leading to the load lock bars becoming unsecured during operation. The component design is identified as inadequate for its application, and while there have been no reported accidents or injuries associated with this issue, loose load lock bars could pose a risk of injury or increase the likelihood of a crash. The remedy will involve removing the existing clamps and replacing them with newly designed clamps fabricated from steel. Owners will be notified by January 15, 2026, with dealers receiving notification by November 27, 2025. Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) will be searchable for recall status starting November 27, 2025.
Additionally, Mack Trucks is initiating a separate recall for 247 model year 2025-2026 Mack Pioneer (PR) tractors and 4 model year 2026 Mack Anthem AN (4) tractors. These vehicles are equipped with automatic high beam (AHB) systems, manufactured by Robert Bosch GMBH, that may not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 108. The system’s camera algorithm can incorrectly identify certain oncoming vehicles, preventing the high beams from automatically switching to low beams. This failure to dim the headlights could reduce visibility for other road users and elevate the risk of a collision. While no crashes or injuries have been reported, drivers may notice the high beams remaining illuminated when approaching vehicles. As an interim measure, the AHB feature will be disabled via a software update. A permanent remedy is under development and will be installed at a later date. Owners will be notified by January 17, 2026, with dealer notifications commencing on or before November 27, 2025. The VINs will be searchable for recall status starting November 27, 2025.
Volvo Trucks North America is also recalling a substantial number of its vehicles. A recall affecting 1,859 model year 2024-2026 Volvo VNL (4) trucks addresses the same load lock clamp issue as the Mack trucks. These clamps, also manufactured by Nova Industries/Mayco International Inc, may break, causing the load lock bars to become unsecured. This poses a safety risk of injury or accident. The component design is considered inadequate for its intended application. Volvo Trucks has reported 39 warranty claims, 1 field report, but no accidents or injuries related to this issue. The remedy will involve replacing the plastic clamps with steel ones. Owners can expect notification by January 15, 2026, with dealers being notified by November 27, 2025. The VINs will be searchable for recall status beginning November 27, 2025.
Furthermore, Volvo Trucks North America is recalling 4,887 model year 2026 Volvo VNR (4) and 2024-2026 Volvo VNL (4) tractors due to a noncompliance with FMVSS 108 concerning their automatic high beam systems. Similar to the Mack trucks, the AHB system, also featuring a camera from Robert Bosch GMBH, may fail to switch from high beams to low beams when encountering oncoming vehicles due to errors in the image-detection algorithm. This could create a visibility hazard for other drivers and increase the potential for crashes. No warranty claims, field reports, accidents, or injuries have been reported for this specific issue. The interim remedy involves disabling the AHB feature through a software update, reverting the headlamp operation to manual control. A permanent fix is being developed. Owner notifications are scheduled to begin by January 17, 2026, with dealer notifications on or before November 27, 2025. VINs will be searchable for recall status beginning November 19, 2025.
For all affected vehicles, owners are strongly advised not to drive them and to park them outside until the necessary repairs are completed.
