The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is issuing a stern warning to consumers to immediately cease using portable electric car kettles distributed by BLONGKY due to a significant risk of serious burn injuries. These kettles are prone to unexpectedly spewing hot steam or water when opened, and their lid mechanisms can also fail, leading to unexpected opening and potential burns. The CPSC is aware of at least 11 incidents where the kettles released hot contents, resulting in nine reported burn injuries, including one instance of second-degree burns.

The affected products are marketed under the BLONGKY brand, with the model number FCC 390 Pro. They were available in two colors: taupe (K-Taupe) and white (K-White). Consumers can identify the model number on the front of the kettle, situated above the digital temperature display. These kettles were sold online through platforms such as Amazon.com and Walmart.com, with prices ranging from $17 to $40. They have also been found for sale by third-party sellers on various other websites, including eBay.com. The distributor, Maoming Huazhou Zibailong Technology Co., Ltd, operating as BLONGKY and based in China, has not responded to the CPSC’s requests for a recall or further product information. The kettles were manufactured in China.

Consumers in possession of these defective car kettles are strongly advised to dispose of them immediately, following local hazardous waste disposal guidelines. The CPSC explicitly states that these dangerous kettles should not be sold or given away to others. For those who have experienced a safety incident with these car kettles or any product-related injury, the CPSC encourages reporting through their SaferProducts.gov website.
