Ford Motor Company is initiating a recall for a significant number of its 2025-2026 Bronco and Bronco Sport vehicles due to a software issue that can cause the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to go blank. According to the manufacturer’s submission to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this defect affects approximately 229,609 vehicles. The issue arises from a software error during the IPC’s sleep entry sequence, where a CAN wakeup interrupt can trigger a memory protection fault, leading to the blank screen.

The safety risk associated with a blank instrument panel is that crucial safety-related information, such as warning lights and gauges, may become unreadable. This lack of vital data could increase the risk of a crash, particularly if a driver is unaware of critical vehicle conditions. Ford has identified the component responsible as the SX2 Digital Instrument Panel Cluster, supplied by Visteon. The specific software malfunction was introduced into production on March 7, 2024, for the Bronco Sport and on May 31, 2024, for the Bronco, with the affected production run concluding on November 3, 2025.
The recall specifically impacts 128,607 units of the 2025-2026 Ford Bronco Sport and 101,002 units of the 2025-2026 Ford Bronco. While Ford states that the vehicles leave the factory compliant, connected vehicle data indicates that a substantial percentage of surveyed vehicles have experienced ignition cycles within the window of susceptibility to this concern. Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this defect.
Ford plans to address this issue by updating the IPC software in the affected vehicles. Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership for the free software update. The remedy software will reportedly have the memory protection feature disabled to prevent the fault. Dealers are expected to be notified of the recall on November 24, 2025, and owners will receive notification letters beginning December 8, 2025, with the mailing expected to be completed by December 12, 2025. Owners can also contact Ford’s toll-free line at 1-866-436-7332 or their local dealer to determine if their specific vehicle is included in the recall. Information regarding VIN applicability is expected to be searchable on the specified date.
