Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is initiating a voluntary safety recall affecting a significant number of Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 series trucks manufactured between 2021 and 2022. This recall, identified by NHTSA Recall No. 25V765, addresses a defect in the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) that could prevent the driver’s airbag from deploying in certain crash scenarios, increasing the risk of injury to the driver. The issue stems from an insufficient weld between an internal flexible flat cable and a busbar within the SCCM.

The recall encompasses a total of 532 potentially involved vehicles. Specifically, the affected models include:

* 2021-2022 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) under 10,000 lbs. A total of 6 of these vehicles are potentially involved. * 2021-2022 Ram 2500 Pickup trucks, with 199 potentially involved. * 2021-2022 Ram 3500 Pickup trucks, with 40 potentially involved. * 2021-2022 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis trucks, with 38 potentially involved. * 2021-2022 Ram 4500 Cab Chassis trucks, with 62 potentially involved. * 2021-2022 Ram 1500 Classic trucks, with 71 potentially involved. * 2021-2022 Ram 5500 Cab Chassis trucks, with 116 potentially involved.

The production period for these vehicles with the potentially faulty SCCM ranges from November 18, 2020, to December 5, 2022, depending on the specific model. The investigation into this issue began on July 2, 2024, with FCA US thoroughly reviewing customer records, engineering assessments, and supplier data. By October 8, 2025, FCA US TSRC confirmed a vehicle build issue existed, potentially leading to a broken internal connection in the airbag circuit. This noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, which mandates driver’s airbag deployment during certain crash events, was formally recognized on October 30, 2025.

The defect in the SCCM means that the signal from the Occupant Restraint Controller might not reach the driver’s airbag module as intended. While there are no warning signs prior to the failure, an airbag warning light may illuminate in the instrument panel cluster once the internal connection separates. This could lead to an increased risk of driver injury in specific types of crashes where the airbag is needed. The component manufacturer for the affected Steering Column Control Module is Merit Automotive Electronics Systems, located in Spain.

FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall to address this issue. The remedy will involve replacing the faulty SCCM with a new one that features a properly welded internal flexible flat cable to busbar assembly. Owners of affected vehicles are advised not to drive their vehicles and to park them outside. The company will begin notifying dealers on or about November 13, 2025, and owners will be notified starting on or about December 11, 2025, with a phased recall implementation. Owners will be able to check if their vehicle is included in the recall by VIN on November 13, 2025. FCA US will utilize its general reimbursement plan on file for any expenses incurred related to this recall.
