General Motors, LLC has announced a safety recall affecting 2026 model year GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV vehicles due to a potential issue with the front passenger airbag connection. This recall, submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), involves approximately 354 vehicles and addresses a defect that could lead to the passenger airbag not deploying as intended in certain frontal crashes, thereby increasing the risk of passenger injury.

The defect stems from an improper wire crimp in the instrument panel wire harness that connects to the front passenger airbag. During a three-day period in July 2025, the wire harness supplier, Yazaki North America Inc., experienced a downtime with its automated crimping machine for maintenance. During this period, a manual crimping process was implemented. The supplier’s records indicate that the crimps produced during this time were inconsistent, and in some instances, may not have formed a secure electrical connection between the wire and the terminal. GM manufacturing records and part trace data were utilized to identify the specific vehicles that may have received a suspect wire harness. Vehicles produced outside of this supplier’s suspect production window, or those that were corrected before leaving the manufacturing plant, are excluded from this recall.
The safety risk arises from the possibility that the passenger airbag may not deploy in a frontal collision under certain circumstances. The potential consequences include an increased risk of injury to the front passenger. Owners of affected vehicles may notice a warning light on the instrument panel indicating an issue with the airbag system. The recall specifically covers 245 GMC Hummer EV SUVs produced between July 31, 2025, and October 24, 2025, and 109 GMC Hummer EV Pickups manufactured between August 5, 2025, and October 21, 2025.
General Motors became aware of a potential issue on August 21, 2025, when an employee at a GM assembly plant discovered a wire had become dislodged from a passenger front airbag connector on a 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV during the assembly process. This discovery prompted GM to initiate a product investigation. The investigation led to the identification of the compromised crimping process at the supplier’s facility. Although GM is aware of this manufacturing anomaly, the company states it is not aware of any field incidents related to this specific condition.
The remedy for this recall involves dealers installing a jumper harness. This jumper harness will replace the portion of the instrument panel wire harness that contains the front passenger airbag connector. The replacement jumper harness is designed with terminals in the connector that have undergone proper crimping procedures. The condition in production was resolved once the supplier’s automated crimping machine was returned to service on July 11, 2025. Further process improvements were implemented by both the supplier and the GM assembly plant by August 21, 2025.
Owners of the affected GMC Hummer EV models are advised not to drive the vehicle and to park it outside. Dealers are scheduled to be notified of the recall on November 6, 2025. Owner notification regarding the availability of the remedy is expected to begin mailing on December 22, 2025, in a phased rollout. Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) will be searchable for recall status beginning November 6, 2025. As all covered vehicles are under warranty, there is no reimbursement plan for this recall.
