Several programs focus on skill development and practical knowledge. A Cricut Class on November 4th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM will introduce participants to the basics of using the Cricut Air 2 machine and Cricut Design Space, culminating in the creation of a single-color vinyl design. For those interested in financial literacy, a “Focus on Finances: Credit, Credit Reports & Scores” session is scheduled for November 6th from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. This program, led by Doug Harmon from 1st Ed Credit Union, will cover how credit scores impact various aspects of life and provide guidance on accessing and improving credit reports and scores. Computer skills will be addressed in a “Job Help 101” class on November 20th from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM, which will introduce attendees to library resources like Hoopla and Overdrive for accessing e-books, e-audiobooks, magazines, TV shows, movies, and music. Participants with smartphones, e-readers, or tablets are encouraged to bring them.
Wellness and creative pursuits are also well-represented in the November lineup. The library is offering two yoga sessions led by Sandra from Dawnlight Yoga. A “Beginner Yoga” class will be held on November 5th from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM, and a “Chair Yoga” class is scheduled for November 14th from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Both classes are open to adults and teens (with parental signature) and welcome all experience levels, with mats provided. A “Paint & Sip: Starry Night” event on November 25th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM will allow participants to create their own rendition of Vincent van Gogh’s famous painting. This event, taught by Selena Hill, costs $10 per person and includes sparkling cider and refreshments, with sponsorship from the Friends of the Library. For crafters, the “Hooks & Needles” group meets on November 13th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in Jane’s Tea Room, offering a casual setting to work on projects and share tips.
Social and intellectual engagement opportunities include a “Book Club” on November 21st from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, where members will discuss the month’s selected title. The “Chess Club,” for ages 9 and up, meets on November 1st from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with instruction available for beginners. The “Gamesboro Gaming Group” will gather on November 1st and November 15th, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, exploring history through strategy board games for ages 12 and up. Two “Socrates Cafe” sessions are planned for November 6th and November 20th, both from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. These meetings provide a forum for thoughtfully exchanging ideas on philosophical questions with respect for differing opinions. Genealogy enthusiasts can join the “Genealogy Club” on November 5th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM for informal discussions. An “Olive Oil Tasting” event is scheduled for November 18th from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, featuring a selection of international olive oils from Weyira Olive Oil & Vinegar Tasting Gallery, with products available for purchase.
Registration is required for most programs, including Beginner Yoga, Chair Yoga, Computer Class: Job Help 101, Cricut Class, Olive Oil Tasting, and Paint & Sip. Participants are advised to sign up at the library or through the library’s website, ahmfl.org, by selecting “Programming” from the menu. The Chess Club and Gamesboro Gaming Group are open to all players, though younger participants may require parental accompaniment. The Hooks & Needles group is a drop-in activity.
