For those seeking relaxation and gentle exercise, the library is hosting both Beginner Yoga and Chair Yoga sessions. The Beginner Yoga class, led by Sandra from Dawnlight Yoga, is scheduled for December 3rd from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. This monthly class is open to adults and teens and welcomes all experience levels, with mats provided. The Chair Yoga class, also facilitated by Sandra, will take place on December 12th from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Similar to the beginner class, it is designed for adults and teens and accommodates all abilities. Both yoga sessions require registration at the library.
Intellectual and creative pursuits are also featured prominently. The Chess Club will convene on December 6th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, catering to players aged 9 and up. Beginners will receive instruction on fundamental moves and strategy, and participants are encouraged to bring their own chess sets, though extras will be available. The Gamesboro Gaming Group, an adult and teen program for ages 12 and up, will meet on the first and third Saturdays of the month, including December 6th and December 20th, both from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This group explores history through strategy board games. For adults interested in tracing their family history, the Genealogy Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month, with its December session on December 3rd from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, offering an informal setting for enthusiasts to connect. Philosophical discussions are the focus of Socrates Cafe, which meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Adult sessions are scheduled for December 4th and December 18th, both from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, providing a space for thoughtful exchanges on various ideas.
Creative workshops are also on offer. A casual Diamond Dot session for adults will be held on December 4th from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This activity has a fee of $10 per person and requires registration. The library is also hosting a “Paint & Sip: Christmas Memories” event on December 16th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM for adults. Participants will learn to paint a holiday-themed scene under the guidance of guest teacher Selena Hill. The library will provide sparkling cider and refreshments, and attendees are encouraged to wear festive sweaters for a chance to win a prize. This event also has a $10 per person fee and requires registration. For crafters, the Hooks & Needles group will meet on December 11th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. This casual gathering allows adults to work on their knitting, crocheting, or other fiber art projects, share tips, and learn new techniques. This session will take place in Jane’s Tea Room.
Teenagers have dedicated activities as well. The Anime Club will meet on Wednesday, December 10th, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Teen Room for those who enjoy watching and discussing anime. This free program meets on the second Wednesday of each month and will resume in January. Teen Art Adventures, held in the Makerspace, is scheduled for Thursday, November 13th, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This program, which occurs on the second Thursday of the month, teaches teens about the science and techniques behind different artists and their work, allowing them to create their own masterpieces.
Additionally, the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library is hosting a Holiday Bazaar from November 22nd through December 20th, open during regular library hours. The bazaar will feature custom candles, knitted bookmarks, ornaments created with 3D printers and Glowforge technology, and other items. All proceeds from the bazaar will benefit the library. The library thanks the Friends of the Library for sponsoring the “Paint & Sip” program. Registration for most programs is required and can be done by visiting the library or calling 717-762-3335.
