From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., law enforcement personnel will be stationed outside the Leesburg Police Department headquarters, located at 65 Plaza Street NE in Leesburg, Virginia, to receive unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as vitamins and supplements. Participation in this service is entirely free and anonymous, with no questions asked about the items being surrendered. Individuals are advised to remove any personal identifying information from prescription labels prior to drop-off. This initiative directly addresses concerns about medication misuse, potential accidental poisonings, and the environmental impact of pharmaceuticals.
For those unable to attend the event, the Leesburg Police Department maintains a permanent medication drop box within its lobby. This drop box is accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the year, offering a continuous solution for residents seeking to safely dispose of unused medications. This ongoing option ensures that the community has consistent access to a responsible disposal method.
Last year, the Leesburg Police Department successfully collected and disposed of over 1,100 pounds of medications. This significant collection effort underscores the department’s commitment to enhancing community safety by removing potentially harmful substances from circulation and preventing them from falling into the wrong hands.
