Ellis was fatally shot just before 2 a.m. on September 30, 2012, in the vicinity of Mullinix Alley in Frederick. Responding officers found Ellis unresponsive near the entrance to Mullinix Pool, having sustained a single gunshot wound. At the time of his death, Ellis was a father of three.
