Ford Motor Company is initiating a recall of approximately 101,944 Taurus vehicles manufactured between July 25, 2016, and March 1, 2019, due to a defect that could cause the B-pillar trim appliques to detach while the vehicle is in motion. The recall, submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), addresses a safety risk that could lead to crashes.

The issue stems from a change in the manufacturing process implemented on July 25, 2016, which discontinued the use of hand rollers designed to ensure complete adhesion of the trim pieces’ mounting tape. This process continued until the end of Taurus production at the Chicago Assembly Plant on March 1, 2019. Without the aid of these rollers, the B-pillar trim appliques, located on the driver and front passenger doors, may not adhere properly to the vehicle’s body.
The potential detachment of these trim pieces while driving poses a hazard to other road users, increasing the likelihood of a crash. Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this condition. Drivers may observe signs of a potential issue, such as the B-pillar trim separating from the top of the front doors, or notice increased wind noise and rattling sounds while driving.
Ford has identified the potentially affected vehicles through a review of plant records. To determine if a specific vehicle is part of this recall, owners can contact Ford’s toll-free line at 1-866-436-7332 or reach out to a local Ford or Lincoln dealership. Dealerships will have access to the Ford On-line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) database to provide specific vehicle applicability.
The remedy for this recall involves an inspection of the front driver and passenger-side door B-pillar trim appliques by a Ford or Lincoln dealer. If proper adhesion is not confirmed, the appliques will be repaired or replaced at no cost to the owner. The replacement trim components will be properly adhered to the vehicle to ensure their security. The company’s investigation into this issue began in May 2025, following a related action for Explorer vehicles, and identified warranty claims related to Taurus vehicles. As of September 5, 2025, Ford was aware of 452 warranty claims related to B-pillar applique detachment for vehicles produced for the U.S. and its federal territories between June 27, 2017, and December 27, 2022.
Ford expects to notify dealers about the recall on September 15, 2025. Owners will receive interim notification letters by mail, with mailing expected to commence on September 22, 2025, and conclude by September 26, 2025. The VIN searchability for this recall is also scheduled to begin on September 15, 2025. The official remedy notification to owners is planned between December 1, 2025, and December 5, 2025. In the meantime, owners are advised by Ford not to drive the vehicle if the trim appears to be separating and to park it outside.
