The operation, which extended beyond Tennessee, resulted in the apprehension of at least 17 individuals identified as members and associates of MS-13. Arrests were made in Tennessee, California, and Oklahoma. During the enforcement actions, law enforcement officials also seized substantial amounts of illicit substances, including bulk marijuana, counterfeit pills, cocaine, THC vapes, and liquid psilocybin. Additionally, multiple firearms were recovered, including assault rifles, indicating the violent nature of the organization.
MS-13 has evolved into a transnational criminal enterprise with a significant presence in the United States and Central America. The gang is known for its extreme violence and deep involvement in illegal drug trafficking, often employing tactics such as extortion, human trafficking, assault, and murder to maintain control and further its operations. The DEA and its partners view MS-13 as a significant public safety and national security threat due to its thousands of members operating within the U.S.
The investigation and subsequent arrests underscore a commitment by federal and local law enforcement to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking organizations, particularly those designated as foreign terrorist organizations. This coordinated effort highlights the ongoing collaboration between various agencies, including the Army Criminal Investigation Division, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, local Tennessee drug task forces (23rd and 19th Judicial Drug Task Forces), and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The DEA has emphasized its dedication to a comprehensive government approach in combating transnational organized crime and terrorist organizations. This includes continued collaboration with entities such as the Homeland Security Task Force to ensure ongoing operations effectively counter threats posed by these groups.
The public is encouraged to report any information regarding MS-13 or other criminal organizations. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the DEA’s tip line, accessible via DEA.gov.
