Frederick County is experiencing significant growth, leading to overcrowding in many of its public schools, with nineteen currently facing capacity issues. The new Linganore Creek Elementary School is designed to accommodate over 840 students, aiming to alleviate the strain on existing facilities, particularly for the Oakdale community. This initiative is part of a broader state strategy to support rapidly expanding jurisdictions with critical infrastructure, including educational institutions.
The Moore-Miller Administration, in collaboration with the Maryland General Assembly, has allocated significant resources towards school construction. The fiscal year 2026 capital budget includes $825 million dedicated to school construction efforts statewide. This funding encompasses $57 million specifically earmarked for infrastructure improvements and new construction or renovations in counties experiencing rapid population growth and associated overcrowding. Furthermore, the “Built to Learn Fund” is contributing $302.2 million through revenue bonds to support similar school renovation and construction projects.
The construction of Linganore Creek Elementary School represents a collaborative effort between state and local entities. Frederick County has committed $63.1 million towards the school’s development and design, complementing the state’s financial contributions. This partnership underscores a shared priority to ensure that educational facilities keep pace with community expansion and provide students with modern, high-quality learning environments.
