Twenty-four years ago, the nation experienced a profound tragedy with the loss of 2,977 lives due to the coordinated terrorist attacks. These devastating events resulted in 2,753 fatalities in New York City, 184 in Arlington, Virginia, and 40 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The far-reaching impact of these attacks continues to be felt across the country, underscoring the importance of the nation’s resolve to prevent future atrocities. DHS personnel nationwide are participating in commemorative events, highlighting the continuous dedication of those in law enforcement, emergency services, intelligence, and cybersecurity who work daily to ensure the safety of the American public. The department reiterates its commitment to the principles of “Never forget” and “Never again.”
