The case began on March 5, 2024, when the Baltimore Police Department received a report of an armed individual at a convenience store. Authorities identified the suspect as Gary Hall, a previously convicted felon. Upon the officer’s arrival, Hall was observed walking in the direction of Pimlico Elementary School while students were being dismissed. The responding officer pursued Hall and noticed the handle of a firearm concealed in his inner jacket pocket.

When the officer attempted to stop Hall, he resisted and a physical altercation ensued. During the struggle, the officer recovered the loaded firearm from Hall’s jacket. Hall managed to escape apprehension at that time. The recovered firearm was equipped with an extended magazine and contained 19 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The following day, March 6, police responded to a report of a burglary at a nearby residence. Officers subsequently located and arrested Hall in the basement of that home.

This investigation is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. The program aims to enhance safety by building trust, supporting community-based violence prevention efforts, implementing targeted enforcement strategies, and measuring outcomes.

The District of Maryland’s U.S. Attorney’s Office highlighted the efforts of the ATF and the Baltimore Police Department in conducting this investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan Tsuei and James Hammond are prosecuting the case.
