Chrysler is initiating a voluntary safety recall for approximately 985 of its 2025 model year Voyager and Pacifica vehicles. The recall, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), addresses a defect in the curtain airbags that could compromise occupant safety during certain types of crashes. The issue centers on curtain airbags that may not maintain sufficient pressure after deployment, potentially increasing the risk of occupant ejection or injury.

The defect impacts 114 of the 2025 Chrysler Voyager models produced between December 8, 2024, and January 22, 2025, and 871 of the 2025 Chrysler Pacifica models manufactured from December 5, 2024, to January 27, 2025. These dates represent the period when vehicles may have been equipped with the suspect curtain airbags manufactured by Autoliv ASP, Inc. The issue was identified when NHTSA conducted ejection mitigation testing on a 2025 Chrysler Pacifica, revealing that the curtain airbags did not meet the required excursion limit. This led to an internal investigation by FCA US LLC, which confirmed a supplier manufacturing issue with certain curtain airbags that could lead to a noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 226. This standard mandates that during impact testing, the headform’s displacement must not exceed 100 millimeters.
The safety risk associated with this defect involves reduced occupant protection. Specifically, if the curtain airbags fail to retain adequate pressure, they may not effectively prevent occupants from being partially or fully ejected through a side window during a crash. This failure to perform as intended significantly raises the risk of serious injury to occupants. No warning lights or indicators are expected to alert drivers to this condition.
Chrysler will be replacing the affected curtain airbags in all recalled vehicles. The remedy will involve installing new curtain airbags manufactured with different material, ensuring they meet the required pressure retention standards. The recall will be conducted in phases, with dealers being notified of the issue on or about September 11, 2025. Owners of the affected vehicles will begin to be notified starting on or about October 2, 2025. VIN look-up for affected vehicles will be available beginning September 11, 2025. Owners with concerns are advised not to drive their vehicles and to park them outside until the remedy is performed. Chrysler will be following its general reimbursement plan on file for any owner expenses incurred related to this safety defect.
