DHS leadership has emphasized a focus on prioritizing American workers, with a stated goal of ensuring job gains benefit U.S. citizens. The department’s initiatives are also credited with achieving significant taxpayer savings, totaling an estimated $13.2 billion. These financial efficiencies were reportedly realized without compromising essential services in law enforcement, border security, national security, and immigration enforcement roles that have public safety responsibilities.
The department’s efforts to enhance the safety of business operations in the U.S. are cited as a factor contributing to economic growth. Data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) indicates that a high percentage of arrests, around 70%, involve undocumented immigrants with prior criminal convictions or charges in the United States. This figure does not include foreign nationals who may be fugitives or involved in criminal activity but lack a U.S. criminal record.
Furthermore, DHS has asserted a commitment to ending what it describes as a culture of waste, fraud, and abuse in government contracting. The department stated that previous practices of approving numerous contracts without thorough scrutiny have been addressed under its current leadership, with a focus on fiscal responsibility and efficient use of taxpayer funds.
