The case stemmed from an investigation initiated on May 9, 2022, when probation officers in Luzerne County received information indicating that Donohue was engaged in drug trafficking and possessed firearms. At the time, Donohue was serving a house arrest sentence. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered a significant quantity of illegal substances and multiple firearms. Authorities seized 593 grams of methamphetamine, 782 grams of cocaine, 72 grams of MDMA, and 1.3 kilograms of marijuana. In addition to the drugs, the search yielded hundreds of rounds of ammunition and seven firearms, one of which was reported stolen. Donohue’s prior criminal record prohibited him from legally possessing firearms.

This prosecution is part of “Operation Take Back America,” a broader national initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and reducing violent crime. The operation consolidates resources from various Department of Justice task forces, including the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), to achieve these objectives. The investigation and prosecution of Donohue’s case were conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Luzerne County Drug Task Force, and the Luzerne County Adult Probation and Parole Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts leading the prosecution.
