The DHS highlighted the role of the CBP Home App, which encourages voluntary self-deportation by offering $1,000 in assistance, free travel, and potential eligibility for legal reentry. Officials stressed that these measures are part of a broader strategy to prioritize employment for legal residents and restore what they describe as a fair labor market for American citizens. The agency emphasized that the recent employment trends are a direct outcome of these policies, asserting that the labor force is realigning in favor of American workers.
Another economic shift came with the collection of more than $130 billion in tariffs since January 2025—surpassing the totals from the previous five full fiscal years. Customs and Border Protection, now under Secretary Noem’s oversight, reported a tariff collection rate of 99.5%. Officials anticipate that this figure will increase even further following the closure of the long-criticized “de minimis” trade loophole via executive order by President Trump.
