Investigators responded to a call about a fire at 314 Penn Street in Salisbury that had already been extinguished by the homeowner. The man told authorities that Oney, whom he had known for several years, confronted him over a $7 debt she claimed he owed. Following the argument, she allegedly returned with gasoline and ignited the front door before fleeing on a bicycle. Surveillance video and assistance from an accelerant-detecting K9 named Deacon helped confirm the fire was intentionally set.
The collected evidence supported a warrant issued on August 1 charging Oney with multiple felonies, including first- and second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, and reckless endangerment. She was arrested that evening with the cooperation of local and state law enforcement agencies and transported to Wicomico County Detention Center.
