More than 100,000 Kia K5 vehicles from model years 2023 to 2025 are being recalled due to a defect that could lead to parts detaching while the car is in motion, according to a recall notice submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The issue stems from a quality control problem with the adhesive used to attach the C-pillar garnish face plates, located near the rear side windows. Over time, the adhesive may fail, causing the face plate to loosen and eventually fall off. This detachment can create dangerous debris on the roadway, potentially causing accidents or damage to other vehicles. Kia attributes the defect to its supplier, Keumgang Chemical, based in Busan, South Korea.
Owners of affected vehicles may notice early signs such as rattling, wind noise, or visibly loose trim. The defect affects K5 vehicles built between October 3, 2022, and July 24, 2024. Kia estimates around 5% of the 100,063 recalled vehicles have the defect. The issue has since been addressed in newer 2025 K5s built from July 25 onward, which include mechanically secured trim in addition to the adhesive.

To resolve the issue, Kia dealerships will replace the C-pillar garnish assemblies with an updated version featuring improved retention. Vehicle owners will be contacted by mail starting September 26, 2025, with instructions on obtaining the free repairs. Those who already paid for repairs may qualify for reimbursement under Kia’s General Reimbursement Plan. Affected drivers can check their VIN for recall eligibility beginning August 11, 2025.
