Darien Jacob Horton, 25, of Shenandoah Junction, received a sentence of 135 months in federal prison for purchasing and distributing large quantities of fentanyl capsules and other substances. Horton’s prior criminal history includes convictions for attempted murder and firearms-related offenses. Jennifer Nicole Barthlow, 41, of Charles Town, was sentenced to 27 months for her role as a distributor within the same network. Both were involved in a larger drug conspiracy led by Gary Brown, Jr., who was sentenced in May to over 27 years in federal prison.

The criminal network operated primarily within Berkeley and Jefferson Counties, distributing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine. Authorities indicated the large-scale operation had deep roots and was responsible for a significant volume of narcotics in the region. Law enforcement officials credited the work of over a dozen federal, state, and local agencies with dismantling the trafficking ring.
