Per a release from AARP Maryland, the state has launched Longevity Ready Maryland, a decade-long initiative to coordinate services and resources for older adults across multiple agencies and sectors. We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.
If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

The plan comes at a critical time. According to recent U.S. Census Bureau data, Maryland’s population of residents 65 and older increased by 3.35% between 2023 and 2024. In contrast, the number of individuals under 18 declined slightly. This demographic shift underscores the growing need for integrated services, housing options, and health care tailored to older adults.
AARP Maryland, which represents over 850,000 members in the state, supports the strategy as a proactive approach to align community-based supports, government resources, and private sector efforts. The goal is to ensure older Marylanders can maintain independence, dignity, and a strong sense of purpose.

The plan will likely have wide-reaching implications for residents and service providers. It could influence how local governments allocate funding for senior programs, increase demand for eldercare professionals, and affect planning for transportation, housing, and healthcare infrastructure. For residents, it may mean expanded access to coordinated support services, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
