A Prince George’s County resident is facing a potential prison sentence after being convicted on federal charges for illegally possessing ammunition. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, a jury found 42-year-old Lester Massey Jr. of Oxon Hill guilty following a two-day trial in Greenbelt. Law enforcement officers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), working alongside the Prince George’s County Police Department, executed a court-approved warrant at Massey’s residence on August 11, 2023. During the operation, officials discovered 243 live rounds scattered throughout the property, in addition to firearm parts including an AR-style receiver, magazines, and gun maintenance tools. Investigators determined that the ammunition had crossed state lines before being found in Massey’s possession, which formed the basis for federal prosecution.

Massey had previously been convicted of a state offense punishable by more than two years in prison and was aware that his status as a felon prohibited him from possessing firearms or ammunition. His sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, at 2 p.m. The conviction falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and strengthening community safety through coordinated enforcement strategies.
