The ATF, in collaboration with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), announced the reward as part of a broader national initiative targeting firearm thefts from federally licensed dealers and distribution channels. The organizations hope the financial incentive will encourage witnesses or those with knowledge of the suspects’ identities or locations to come forward. Firearms stolen in transit often end up on the black market, raising the risk of gun violence in communities throughout Southern California and beyond.
This investigation is being carried out jointly by the ATF Los Angeles Field Division, Riverside County Sheriff’s Office – Thermal Station, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Cargo Theft Unit, and the Union Pacific Railroad Police Department. The stolen weapons and parts have not yet been recovered, and authorities believe the thefts were part of an organized effort targeting rail shipments moving through the region.
