We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.
If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

The Summer Block Party, part of the town’s monthly “Third in the Burg” series, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Water Street between Main and C&P Lane. Attendees can enjoy live music from Beach Bumz, a Baltimore-based band playing beach-themed classics, and a performance from Soolah Hoops, who combines dance, fire hoops, and audience participation. Additional entertainment includes food trucks, vendors, a dunk tank, and family-friendly activities.
In mid-September, the Cinnamon Bun Fun Run and 5K invites runners and walkers to participate in a race beginning at 11 a.m. from Veterans Park. Participants will finish at Hadley Farms Bakery, where they’ll be treated to a complimentary cinnamon bun and live music. Race registration starts at $22.20 for children and $38.10 for adults, with discounted rates for kids. Same-day registration and T-shirt pickup begin at 9 a.m.

The 5K course includes laps through Veterans Park and continues along North Main Street before concluding behind Hadley Farms. Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers, and all participants will receive a medal. Parking is available near the race start and throughout downtown. All event proceeds benefit the Smithsburg Police Department’s SHOP-With-A-COP program, aimed at building positive relationships between law enforcement and local youth.
