A fire late Thursday night caused significant damage to a detached garage in Mt. Airy and resulted in one firefighter sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal. Emergency crews responded to the incident on July 25 at 2413 Flag Marsh Road in Carroll County, where a wood-frame garage measuring 26 by 30 feet was engulfed in flames.

The fire was discovered around 10:30 p.m. by the property owner and brought under control within 35 minutes by 30 firefighters from the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Department. Investigators report that the fire originated inside the garage, though the precise cause remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $200,000. No smoke alarms, fire alarms, or sprinklers were present in the structure.
One firefighter was transported to Carroll Hospital Center and later released after being treated for injuries. No civilian injuries or fatalities were reported. As the investigation continues, officials have not indicated any suspicion of foul play nor reported any arrests.
