Following Lystrup’s departure, Cynthia Simmons, the current deputy director at Goddard, will assume the role of acting director. Residents in the Greenbelt area and across Maryland can expect continuity in NASA’s operations, although leadership changes may influence future organizational priorities and projects supported by the Goddard Center. As a major local employer and scientific hub, any shifts in direction at Goddard could have broader implications for STEM education partnerships and regional economic activity.
