The town invested $392,200.80 in Fiscal Year 2025 and $136,225.00 in Fiscal Year 2026—drawing entirely from Maryland Highway User Funds—to tackle sections long plagued by potholes and erosion. This $528,425.80 effort represents part of nearly $1 million directed toward roadway and walking‐trail improvements since 2022, ensuring that Smithsburg’s infrastructure keeps pace with community needs.
Crews from Huntzberry Brothers carried out the bulk of the work on ten segments, including East Hemlock Street, Stanley/Hauver Drive, Douglas Court and others. While the major paving and overlay tasks are finished, the contractor remains on site to wrap up cleanup and final details. These upgrades will reduce vehicle wear, enhance pedestrian safety and bolster overall walkability throughout town.
