Nearly 700,000 Ford vehicles are being recalled nationwide due to a fire hazard caused by cracked fuel injectors that could lead to fuel leakage near hot engine components. According to a recall notice submitted by Ford Motor Company to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affected vehicles include certain 2021–2024 Bronco Sport and 2020–2022 Escape models equipped with 1.5-liter engines. Owners should expect notification by mail beginning in August and are advised to take immediate safety precautions.

The recall, identified as NHTSA Recall No. 25V467, affects 694,271 vehicles in total—339,044 Bronco Sport units and 355,227 Escape vehicles. Ford reported that while only 0.3% of these vehicles are estimated to have the defect, the risk involves fuel or vapor accumulating near ignition sources due to cracked fuel injectors. This can result in underhood fires, posing a significant danger to vehicle occupants and nearby individuals. The defect has been traced to high-pressure fuel injectors manufactured by Dumarey Flowmotion Technologies in Italy.
To reduce fire risks, Ford previously issued software updates under separate recalls to detect injector leaks and limit engine performance to lower heat levels. These interim measures also included drain tube installations to redirect leaked fuel away from ignition surfaces. However, following further review and discussions with NHTSA, Ford determined that an additional recall was necessary. The agency questioned whether previous remedies addressed the root cause of injector cracking and whether fuel spillage risks had been adequately mitigated.

As of July 7, 2025, Ford has committed to a new field action, though a final remedy is still under development. Interim guidance instructs affected owners to have updated engine control software installed at no cost. Notifications to dealers began July 15, and mailings to vehicle owners will occur between August 18 and August 22. For now, drivers are urged to park their vehicles outdoors and refrain from driving if signs of a fuel leak—such as fuel odor or engine smoke—are detected. Ford has linked cracked injectors to at least eight underhood fires but reports no injuries so far.
Vehicle owners can check recall eligibility through Ford’s toll-free line at 1-866-436-7332 or by contacting a Ford or Lincoln dealership. VINs will be searchable starting July 15.
